Questions

What is Conventional Commits?

It is a lightweight convention for commit messages: a type, an optional scope and a summary on the first line, then an optional body and footers. Tools can read it to build changelogs and choose version numbers.

How do I mark a breaking change?

Add ! after the type or scope, and add a footer that starts with BREAKING CHANGE: followed by a description. This generator does both when you tick the box.

How long should the first line be?

Git does not set a limit, but 50 to 72 characters is a common guideline so the line is not cut off in git log and on code hosting sites.
