Questions

What contrast ratio do I need?

WCAG 2 level AA needs at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Level AAA needs 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text.

What counts as large text?

WCAG treats text of at least 18 point, or 14 point bold, as large. That is roughly 24px, or about 18.7px bold.

What does the 8 digit HEX code mean?

The last two digits are the alpha channel, from 00 for fully transparent to FF for fully opaque.
